Oral/ Intrauterine Tablet

Veterinary Systemic Antibacterial

The Composition

Sultinova Oral/ Intrauterine Tablet is blue-colored, notched middle tablet which contains 1000 mg
Sulfamethoxazole and 200 mg Trimethoprim..

Pharmacological Properties

Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim combination is widely used in veterinary medicine with a broad antibacterial spectrum. As reinforced antibacterial activity of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole, including resistant strains the spectrum of effect is extended and the drug resistance is prevented with the combination. Sulfamethoxazole inhibit the dihydro folic acid synthetase that attendant dihydro folic acid synthesis in susceptible bacteria, also trimethoprim inhibits the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase attendant in the synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid. Thus, when two different points affected by folic acid metabolism a powerful in vitro synergistic antibacterial effect is occurs. Despite the generally act alone in bacteriostatic types of active substances, the effect of the combination sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim is bactericidal type. The main bacteria are sensitive to the combination;

Gram positive aerobes: Staph. aureus, Streptococcus spp., Actimomyces spp., Corynebacterium spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathie,

Gram negative aerobes: Actinobacillus spp., Bordetella spp., Enterobacteriaceae (E.coli, Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Yersinia spp.), Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp.,

Anaerobes: Actimomyces spp., Bacteroides spp., Fusobacterium spp., some Clostridium spp., Chlamydia spp.. Some Mycobacterium spp. and some Nocardia spp. are moderately sensitive. Rickettsia spp., Leptospira spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Mycoplasma spp. are considered to be resistant.

Trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole are resorbed quickly and completely after administered orally. The maximum plasma concentration is reached within 1 to 4 hours. Trimethoprim is better distributed in tissues and organs than sulfamethoxazole, but this is compensated by the combination of 5 parts of sulfamethoxazole for 1 part of trimethoprim. Both components are bound for ca. 50 % to plasma proteins. They are mainly excreted in the urine within 24 hours.

Indications

For the treatment of organisms which are susceptible to sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (5:1) and urogenital infections in cows and mares. In calves and weight in dogs over 40 kg, caused respiratory, digestive, urogenital tract infections, septicemia in the treatment of viral infection and characterized by susceptible bacteria formed by the secondary infection.
